GLENFIELD One person was killed Tuesday morning when his vehicle collided with a town of Greig dump truck on Route 12.
The accident occurred at about 11:30 a.m. near Tiffany Road north of the hamlet of Glenfield in the town of Martinsburg.
The Lewis County Sheriffs Office said Cecil L. Allen, 85, of Lowville, was driving north on Route 12 in a 2004 Chrysler Sebring. For reasons that remain unknown, Mr. Allen then drove into the southbound lane.
Mr. Allen struck head on a Greig Town Highway Department Ford dump truck, driven by Kenneth R. Kirkbride, 56, Lowville, deputies said.
Mr. Kirkbride was not injured, Lewis County Sheriff Michael P. Carpinelli said.
Lewis County Undersheriff James M. Monnat said the truck was a tandem dump truck and was hauling a full load of stone at the time of the accident.
Mr. Allen was pronounced dead at the collision scene by Lewis County Coroner Leanne Moser.
The two men were the only individuals involved in the accident. Were fortunate it wasnt more, Mr. Carpinelli said.
Route 12 was closed between Main Street and Blue Street at 11:45 a.m. The road reopened at 6:20 p.m.
The Glenfield Fire Department along with the state police accident reconstruction team assisted at the scene of the accident.
