High school lacrosse: Huntley puts Canton in final

CANTON — Rachel Huntley scored the game-winning goal with 20 seconds left as the Canton girls lacrosse team defeated No. 3 Heuvelton 12-11 in a Section 10 Class C semifinal Tuesday.

Canton (9-4), the No. 2 seed, will face top-seeded Potsdam in the championship game at 5 p.m. Thursday at SUNY Canton.

Huntley finished with four goals. Angelina Vecchio, Emily Pinckney and Tessa Knight each scored twice, and Mimi Husenic and Courtney Marsh also scored.

Corine Sherwood and Olivia St. Pierre both scored four goals for Heuvelton (9-9). Jackie Sovie scored twice and Alexa Steele also scored.

POTSDAM 12, OFA 6

Hannah Drechsel scored four times to lead the Sandstoners past the No. 4 Blue Devils (6-11) in the other semifinal, played in Potsdam.

Kalie Grant scored three goals and Kiona Loran added two for Potsdam (13-3). Matisyn Beamer, Annette Rishe and Paige McCable scored single goals.

Sky Hoover led OFA with three goals.

CARTHAGE 14, OSWEGO 8

Braelie Kempney and Carly Sullivan scored three goals apiece as the third-seeded Comets beat the No. 6 Buccaneers (4-13) in a Section 3 Class B quarterfinal at Carthage.

Carthage will play Watertown in the Class C semifinals at 7 p.m. Friday in Chittenango.

Hannah Millich, Mia Darroch and Mackenzie Kidder each added two goals for Comets (12-5).

SOUTH JEFFERSON 17, JORDAN-ELBRIDGE 8

Morgan Alexander’s five goals and three assists sparked the No. 3 Spartans to a Class C quarterfinal home win over the No. 11 Eagles at Adams.

South Jefferson (14-3) plays the winner of tonight’s General Brown/Marcellus quarterfinal in the Class C semfinals at 7 p.m. Friday at Liverpool High School.

Maddie Knapp contributed three goals and two assists, Clarissa Perry added three goals and Lara Podvin and Stephanie Green had two goals each for South Jefferson. Goalie Courtney Ziegler made nine saves.

Antonia Malvasso led Jordan-Elbridge (8-9) with three goals.

GIRLS TRACK AND FIELD

MALONE 190, GOUVERNEUR 109

Hannah Perry and Emily Pomainville each won two events to lead the Huskies in Potsdam.

Perry won the long jump and discus, and Pomainville finished first in the 400 and 3,000 for Malone (9-1).

Maddie Drechsel took the 100 and 200 for Potsdam (3-6).

BOYS TRACK AND FIELD

MALONE 166, POTSDAM 60

Four wins from Jamiel Stapleton sent the Huskies (9-1) to victory in Potsdam.

Stapleton won the 110 hurdles, long jump, 400 hurdles and high jump. Tehatakenta Boots won the shot put and discus.

Ebuka Ononye led Potsdam (2-6-1) with wins in the 100 and 200.
