CANTON State police are searching for the Rensselaer Falls man who struck and killed a Canton restaurant owner last December.
Daniel W. Lester, 28, of 8 Heuvelton St., had a warrant issued for his arrest after he failed to abide to his presentence release agreement. He remained out of police custody as of 9:30 p.m. Wednesday. State police said Lester failed a drug test during a probation visit, testing positive for Suboxone. He was released pending the issue of an arrest warrant by County Judge Jerome J. Richards.
Lester pleaded guilty in St. Lawrence County Court on April 24 to felony first-degree vehicular manslaughter in the death of Richard F. Morrow, 68, of Ellis Road. Lester faces four to 12 years in prison in a plea agreement that satisfied multiple charges against him.
At 10:40 p.m. on Dec. 23, Lester was driving on County Route 27 in Canton when his Toyota Corolla struck and killed Mr. Morrow as he rode his bicycle. Lester fled the scene.
Judge Richards released Lester under probation supervision as part of the plea agreement. Sentencing is set for July 7.
