ROCHESTER Tayler Fravel, a senior at the University of Rochester and a 2010 graduate of Sandy Creek, was named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-America Softball third team Wednesday.
Fravel and the Yellowjackets (32-12), who are coached by 1997 Sandy Creek graduate Margaret Yerdon-Grange, will play Wisconsin-Whitewater (37-11) in the NCAA Division III Softball Championships round of eight at 11 a.m. today.
Fravel is in her second year with Rochester and has started all 86 games at various infield positions since her arrival. This season, Fravel leads the team in hits (68), doubles (12), triples (5), stolen bases (12), and is second with a .450 batting average.
The Yellowjackets are in the round of eight for the first time in program history and in the midst of their fifth NCAA Tournament appearance.
Yerdon-Grange, who pitched Sandy Creek to its first state title as a senior, has posted a 132-80 career record in her five seasons as Rochesters head coach.
Yerdon-Grange was named one of the North Countrys Greatest 100 Athletes by the Times in 2008.
