Jewel A. “Judy” (Butts) Maracle, 75 of Syracuse passed away peacefully on Wednesday at St. Joseph’s Hospital Health Center with her loving family and friends at her side. She was born in Philadelphia, NY a daughter of the late George and Kathleen (Borland) Butts. After graduating from Carthage High School, Jewel came to the Syracuse area where she has since resided. She was employed by Wasusa Insurance Company in their claims and collections department and previously worked for Penn Traffic. She was a member of the Lakeside Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, Syracuse Crunch Hockey Booster Club, and very active with the NYS Fair. She loved to take bus trips and attending Syracuse Crunch Hockey games. She enjoyed reading, cross stitch, and watching her favorite TV shows. Judy loved spending time with her sisters and close friends and looked forward to family reunions at the Johnson’s. She will be remembered for her always present smile and her infectious laugh. She is predeceased by her husband Richard “Dick” Maracle, a grandson, Jordan Maracle, sister, Arlene Files and two brothers; Jack and Richard Butts.

Surviving to cherish her memory is her loving companion, Dan Kotyra, son, Richard “Rich” (Yolanda Alejandre) Maracle, two granddaughters; Emma and Clare Maracle, four sisters; Blanche Miles, Louella Card, Nancy (Kenny) Johnson and Janette (Larry) Kerr. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews and grandkids that she considered her own.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, May 23, 2014 from 4 to 7 pm at the Maurer Funeral Home Moyers Corners, 3541 Rt 31 Baldwinsville. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:00 am at the funeral home with burial to follow in Greenlawn Cemetery.

The family would like to express a special thank you to Dr. Bingham and the staff at St. Joseph’s Hospital for their loving and gentle care shown towards Judy. Please consider contributions in Judy’s memory to the Lakeside Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary.
