This Memorial Day weekend will bring plenty of racing to area tracks.
The action kicks off tonight, but the weekend will be highlighted by the debut of the Northeast Midget Association circuit at Evans Mills Speedway 5 p.m. Saturday.
This will be the first of two races in Upstate New York for the popular winged-midget series as it will race Sept. 13 at Oswego Speedway, which has held NEMA races periodically since 2002.
The group, founded in 1953, is one of the oldest remaining midget racing clubs in the country. The circuit races at tracks throughout New England and New York.
Drivers and series officials made a trip to the track last week to promote Saturdays race, including taking part in the Armed Forces Day parade May 17 in Watertown.
Tonight will be the opening night of racing at Mohawk International Raceway in Akwesasne after rain had previously delayed the season-opening Atomic Spring Clash on April 26-27 and May 3. A regular racing program May 16 was also postponed. There will be races in the modified, sportsmen, mod lite and bandits divisions. Racing starts at 7:30 p.m.
Chapmans Can-Am Motorsports Park in LaFargeville will try to have its first race night of the season untouched by rain with the Tim Dillenbeck Memorial races. Races will be in the sportsman, late model, thunder car, thunder stock and novice sportsman divisions. There will also be two makeup features from the races that were postponed from two weeks ago.
