FABIUS Zach Brown and Reis Harding each hit a three-run home run, and Tyler Doe pitched a five-hit complete game to lead the fifth-seeded Sandy Creek baseball team to an 11-1 upset win over No. 4 Fabius Pompey in the Section Class C-2 quarterfinals on Saturday.
The Comets (9-7) will play top-seeded Beaver River in the C-2 semifinals at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at NBT Bank Stadium in Syracuse.
Brown (2-for-4) hit his three-run shot in the third inning to give the Comets a 4-1 lead. Hardings home run came in the seventh to help Sandy Creek blow the game open.
Jarrett Gummoe generated two hits for the Falcons (9-5).
BEAVER RIVER 4, WEST CANADA VALLEY 3
Erik Lyndaker doubled in the game-winning run in the sixth inning to lift the top-seeded Beavers to a C-2 quarterfinal win over the No. 8 Indians (7-12) in Lowville.
Christian Widrick allowed three hits and struck out 11 in a complete game for Beaver River (14-3), which won the C-2 and overall Class C title last season.
Dustin Neddo provided three hits triple and two singles for the Beavers.
Beaver River swept the season series with Sandy Creek, winning 13-5 and 13-0.
SOUTH LEWIS 5, CATO-MERIDIAN 0
Jason Martin pitched a strong three-hitter, striking out 10 and walking one, as the top-seeded Falcons earned a Class C-1 quarterfinal win over No. 9 Cato-Meridian (7-8) in Turin.
South Lewis (15-1) plays either No. 5 Sauquoit Valley or No. 4 Mt. Markham in Tuesdays semifinals at 4:30 p.m. at DeLutis Field in Rome. The Sauquoit Valley-Mt. Markham game was postponed until today.
Lucas Kelly finished 2-for-3 and drove in three runs for South Lewis.
In Class D semifinals, top-seeded Oriskany beat No. 9 Copenhagen, 20-4, and No. 3 Brookfield topped No. 11 Alexandria, 11-1.
The Sackets Harbor at New York Mills semifinal was postponed and will be played at 10 this morning.
