Watertown man accused of using forged check to withdraw money


WATERTOWN — A man faces a felony charge after city police said he possessed a forged check with the intent to defraud the owner.

Scott S. Sample, 20, of 334 Clay St., Apt. 3, was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument, a class D felony, after police said he had a check belonging to Randy H. Hartle, of 156 Sterling St., Apt. 3.

According to police, Mr. Sample used the check at a Watertown bank at 1:18 p.m. on May 12. The value of the check is not known.

He was arrested at 3:30 p.m. Friday at the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building, arraigned in City Court and sent back to the jail on $20,000 cash bail.
