BRIER HILL The Brier Hill Volunteer Fire Department has received a $29,973 federal grant to purchase new equipment.
The funding, through the Department of Homeland Securitys Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program, was announced Thursday by U.S. Sens. Kirsten E. Gillibrand and Charles E. Schumer, both D-N.Y.
The department will use the money to purchase new jaws of life equipment, used to free accident victims who are trapped in their vehicles. According to a news release announcing the grant, the departments current equipment is unable to cut through newer cars.
