Theresa man sentenced up to 3 years in prison for violating court order

WATERTOWN — A Theresa man was sentenced Friday in Jefferson County Court to up to three years in state prison for violating a woman’s order of protection.

Scotty D. Tummons, 43, was sentenced to 1 to 3 years in prison after pleading guilty May 7 to first-degree criminal contempt and admitted violating probation. He admitted that he violated an order of protection held by Jessica L. Barbrow by sending her text messages Dec. 6 in Theresa. He also admitted violating multiple probation sentences by committing the new crime. Most recently, he was sentenced in November in County Court to three years’ probation for second-degree criminal contempt.

Mr. Tummons was sentenced to prison as a second-felony offender, having been convicted in 2012 of first-degree criminal contempt, with the victim in that case also being Ms. Barbrow.
