The Sackets Harbor Historical Society and Seaway Trail Foundation will host a program at 7 p.m. Friday about the War of 1812s Gen. James Wilkinson.
It will be presented by Matthew C. Dudley, a 2014 graduate of St. Lawrence University, Canton.
The program, For King and Countries: The Remarkable Life of an Occasional Spaniard and Fairweather Patriot will be held at the Seaway Trail Discovery Center in the historic Union Hotel, West Main Street in the village. Admission is free.
Mr. Dudley, of Cazenovia, has studied and researched the life of Gen. Wilkinson since 2011. Thanks to funding from SLU, last summer Mr. Dudley furthered his investigation of the generals life in the Archives of the Indies in Seville, Spain, and at the Chicago History Museum.
Gen. Wilkinson was commander during two American defeats, at the battles of Cryslers Farm and Lacolle Mills. He was also known as Agent 13, a spy for the Spanish crown.
