WATERTOWN A Syracuse-based accounting firm has proposed constructing a 7,800-square-foot office building on Commerce Drive East, near the main U.S. Post Office.
The accounting firm of Bowers & Co. CPA PLLC has submitted plans to the citys Planning Department to construct the office building on a nearly one-acre vacant parcel at the end of a cul-de-sac.
It would join two other Watertown offices, one at the Marcy Building, 167 Polk St., Suite 340, another at 145 Clinton St. and another office in Syracuse. It was unclear on Friday whether the Watertown offices would consolidate.
In paperwork submitted to the Planning Department, owner Michael G. DAvirro said he hopes to begin construction this summer or fall and move into the office building next year.
The citys Planning Board will consider site plans for the project on Tuesday.
Plans for the one-story building include a parking lot with 40 spaces, two concrete sidewalks leading to the building and site lighting. The building would be serviced by public sewage and water through existing lines along Commerce Drive.
The interior would include 19 offices, a conference room, restrooms, space for clerical staff and a space for a future tenant, according to the plans.
Planning Department officials expressed concerns about drainage, the configuration of the parking lot and adding more trees to act as a buffer to other nearby properties, according to a Planning Department report. They also questioned why plans do not show pedestrian access from the road.
Aubertine and Currier Architects, Engineers & Land Surveyors PLLC, Watertown, is designing the building.
The Planning Board would make a recommendation on the site plan and the Watertown City Council would give final approval.
