Greig man sentenced to jail time for underage contact


LOWVILLE — A Greig man was sentenced Friday in Lewis County Court to six months in county jail on charges that he had inappropriate contact with underage girls.

Derek J. Bush, 23, of 5545 Linda Place, additionally was sentenced to 10 years’ probation on charges of third-degree rape and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, to which he pleaded guilty April 25, and he was listed as a Level 2 sex offender.

He was accused of having sexual contact with a girl younger than 17 in August in the town of Greig, as well as having inappropriate contact with two other underage girls, one in April 2013 in the town of New Bremen and the other in October in the town of Watson.

Also in Lewis County Court on Friday:

Kayleigh I. Arnold, 22, of 6910 Convent St., Croghan, was arraigned on a new charge of fourth-degree grand larceny and pleaded guilty to that charge. She then was admitted to the county’s Drug Court program on that charge and two counts of third-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument to which she had pleaded guilty April 4. She was accused of possessing forged checks belonging to Tammy Leeder on Feb. 2 and 3 in the village of Lowville and stealing a credit or debit card belonging to Michael Hosmer on April 13 in the town of Croghan.

Michael J. Preece, 35, Number Four Road, Lowville, was arraigned on a charge of second-degree attempted offering a false instrument for filing and pleaded guilty to the charge. Sentencing was set for June 20. Mr. Preece was accused of, on June 3, reporting no income on an application to the Department of Social Services when he actually was receiving unemployment benefits.

Amber T. Finnegan, 21, of Marcy, and John B. Robinson, 52, of Deansboro, both were arraigned on charges of petit larceny and pleaded guilty. Sentencing was set July 18 for Ms. Finnegan and Aug. 8 for Mr. Robinson. The two were accused of, on April 12, stealing property belonging to Christopher Burmingham in the town of Turin.

Amanda L. Walker, 34, Elm Street, Lowville, was arraigned on charges of fourth-degree welfare fraud and fourth-degree grand larceny and pleaded innocent to both. Her case was adjourned to July 18. Ms. Walker was accused of, from February to August 2013, submitting false information on recertification paperwork to DSS, thus receiving $2,802 to which she was not entitled.

Martina M. Downs, 49, of 7616 Park Ave., Lowville, had her case of two counts of fourth-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance and single counts of fourth- and fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance adjourned to June 27. She was accused of selling dihydrocodeine with acetaminophen on two occasions apiece from June through August.

Kinsey R. Schaefer, 30, of 7909 Route 26, Lowville, had her case of fifth-degree criminal sale and possession of a controlled substance adjourned to Wednesday. She was accused of selling Adderall in 2012 in the town of Lowville.

Brian A. Nagy, 24, of 3411 Pearl St., Port Leyden, had his case of third-degree burglary adjourned to July 9. Mr. Nagy was accused of unlawfully entering a building at Snow Ridge Ski Resort on Feb. 6 in the town of Turin.

Joseph G. Hutchins, 26, of 4211 Route 26, Turin, had his case of third-degree criminal mischief adjourned to June 20. He was accused of causing $291.48 worth of damage to a door, casings and locks owned by David Littleby on Nov. 26 in the town of West Turin.
