MIAMI Former Watertown Wizard pitcher Shae Simmons picked up his first career save after working a scoreless ninth inning in the Atlanta Braves 4-2 win over the Miami Marlins on Sunday at Marlins Park.
Simmons, pitching in his second big league game, gave up two hits and a walk, but got the save when he retired Christian Yelich with two on for the final out. Closer Craig Kimbrel was given the day off because of a heavy recent workload.
Simmons struck out Jarrod Saltalamacchia on Saturday in his MLB debut.
Simmons played with the Wizards in 2010 and was drafted out of Southeastern Missouri State by the Braves in the 22nd round of the 2012 Major League Baseball Draft.
