WATERTOWN A one-vehicle accident on Interstate 81 in the town of Pamelia on Sunday afternoon left one person dead and four people with serious injuries, state police said.
Two Life-Net helicopters were called to the scene of the accident, which occurred at about 4:30 p.m. One landed at the Alex T. Duffy Fairgrounds to transport a person to a Syracuse hospital. State police could not confirm the extent of their injuries or identify the people involved in the crash, but said they were from Canada and were northbound on the highway.
A portion of I-81 from Exit 48 North to Exit 49 South remained closed for most of Sunday night. The southbound lane reopened shortly after 10 p.m.
