Watertown native Dr. Delos M. “Toby” Cosgrove III reportedly is among the potential candidates to take the helm as secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs.
The Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday afternoon that Dr. Cosgrove was contacted about the role, and is “seriously considering” accepting it.
Former Gen. Eric K. Shinseki resigned Friday from the Cabinet post amid mounting criticism of cover-ups regarding delays in care nationwide.
Dr. Cosgrove, a 1958 graduate of Watertown High School, is president and chief executive officer of the Cleveland Clinic, one of the largest and most respected hospitals in the country. It comprises eight community hospitals and 18 family health and ambulatory surgery centers.
