LYONS FALLS — A Castorland man was flown to a Utica hospital Wednesday morning after hitting a deer with his motorcycle on Moose River Road in the town of Lyonsdale.
Lewis County sheriff’s deputies said Terry L. Blair, 63, of 6458 Swiss Road, was transported by a LifeNet helicopter to St. Elizabeth Medical Center, where he was listed in “critical condition,” for treatment of head, body and chest trauma. He also suffered a broken wrist and several lacerations.
Deputies said Mr. Blair struck the deer head-on with his motorcycle while traveling east on the road at about 8:31 a.m.
With Mr. Blair still on the vehicle, the motorcycle fell and spun 180 degrees before coming to a rest on top of him on the south shoulder of Moose River Road.
Mr. Blair was taken to the Port Layden Fire Department for initial treatment before being transported to St. Elizabeth Medical Center.
The investigation is ongoing.
