WATERTOWN — The city Planning Board has given its OK for a Syracuse-based accounting firm to construct a 7,800-square-foot office building on Commerce Drive East, near the main U.S. Post Office.
The accounting firm of Bowers & Co. CPA PLLC has proposed constructing the office building on a nearly one-acre vacant parcel at the end of a cul-de-sac.
The firm hopes to begin construction this summer or fall and move into the office building next year.
On Tuesday, the Planning Board recommended sending the site plans to the City Council for its consideration.
Plans for the one-story building include a parking lot with 40 spaces, two concrete sidewalks leading to the building and site lighting. Planners got the developers to make a couple of minor modifications to the parking lot that make it easier for traffic to enter and exit.
The interior would include 19 offices, a conference room, restrooms, space for clerical staff and space for a future tenant.
Aubertine and Currier Architects, Engineers & Land Surveyors PLLC, Watertown, is designing the building.
It would join two other Bowers offices in Watertown, one at the Marcy Building, 167 Polk St., Suite 340, and one at 145 Clinton St., and another office in Syracuse. Matthew R. Morgia, a civil engineer with Aubertine and Currier, said he did not know how many employees would work in the building or the fate of the other Watertown offices.
