LOWVILLE — The Lewis County Public Transportation System next week will kick off a daily route to Old Forge for the third summer.
Beginning next Wednesday, Birnie Bus will offer the seasonal bus route from various points in Lewis and northern Oneida counties to Enchanted Forest Water Safari, providing inexpensive transportation for employees or water park goers.
The route will offer rides to and from the Herkimer County resort community through Labor Day weekend, with the cost being $1 for each one-way trip. Discounted monthly passes are available at the Birnie Bus Lowville terminal.
The 2014 pickup schedule is as follows:
■ Schulz’s Restaurant in Croghan — 7:15 a.m. arrival and 7:20 a.m. departure.
■ Tops Plaza in Lowville — 7:40 a.m. arrival and 7:45 a.m. departure.
■ Howard G. Sackett Technical Center in Glenfield — 7:55 a.m. arrival and 8 a.m. departure.
■ Edge Hotel in Lyons Falls — 8:10 arrival and 8:15 a.m. departure.
■ Lock 96 in Port Leyden — 8:20 a.m. arrival and 8:25 a.m. departure.
■ Tops Plaza in Boonville — 8:35 a.m. arrival and 8:40 a.m. departure.
■ Woodgate Fire Department — 8:50 a.m. arrival and 8:55 a.m. departure.
Buses are to arrive at Enchanted Forest each day at 9:15 a.m. and leave a half-hour after the park’s closing, which varies from 4 to 7 p.m.

Last summer, the routes averaged 30 riders each way, for a total of 60 riders per day.
