POTSDAM — The Village Board passed a resolution this week directing Code Enforcement Officer Greg Thompson to inspect the property at 10-10½ Leroy St.
The resolution was made as a result of Mr. Thompson’s report stating the building could be unsafe and marks the commencement of formal enforcement action against the property owner.
“This structure has been identified as having excessive sanitary issues to the point in which a decision was made by the village to no longer allow the property owners to inhabit this location and condemn the property,” the CEO’s May 21 report read.
“Since this time there have been efforts made with the current listed owner, Mr. Howard (Bill) Beebe, to correct this situation. As of this date, efforts to work with Mr. Beebe have been terminated due to unwillingness by Mr. Beebe to address the sanitary conditions with this dwelling,” the report said.
Mr. Thompson’s report also stated that a letter was sent to Mr. Beebe on Feb. 6 requiring him to make improvements to the property. As of May 21, there had been no response. The village board, after receiving Mr. Thompson’s report, could declare the structure unsafe and order its repair or removal.
