OXBOW — New federal funding of $24,938 will allow the Oxbow Fire Department to purchase five new self-contained breathing apparatuses.
The money, allocated from the Department of Homeland Security’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program, was announced Friday.
“This is the first time since 1960 that Oxbow fire has won an AFG grant,” said Chief Vincent D’Agostino, in a statement. “This is a great success for our small department and a very big improvement.”
The department serves the town of Antwerp and part of the town of Rossie. The department has 25 volunteer firefighters. Last year, Oxbow Fire Inc. responded to over 48 fire and emergency calls.
The new funds were announced by U.S. Charles E. Schumer and Kirsten E. Gillibrand, who in statements said the new equipment will improve safety for the department.
