SYRACUSE — A repeat trip to the state final four isn’t in the cards for the Sandy Creek softball team.

Thomas Edison junior McKenzie Slaven pitched a complete game five-hitter and hit a two-run triple to lift the Spartans to a 2-1 victory over the Comets in the Class C state quarterfinals Friday at Onondaga Community College.

Michaela Martin surrendered two runs on five hits while striking out seven in the loss for the Comets (17-4).

Shania Darling tripled, Carley Stoker hit a ground-rule double and Gabriella Guarasce finished 2-for-3 with a pair of singles for Sandy Creek, which stranded runners in scoring position in each of the last three innings.
