WATERTOWN — Another national chain restaurant may be coming to busy outer Arsenal Street.
Salmon Run Mall officials are talking to an unidentified national chain to construct a restaurant on a mall parcel between Red Lobster and the Olive Garden. They presented preliminary plans to the town Planning Board last week.
Mall general manager Mary Dudo said Tuesday that she hopes to return to next month’s Planning Board meeting with more information and name the chain.
The chain does not want to be identified, she said.
“We’re just starting the process with the town,” she said. “There’s some interest to develop the restaurant there.”
In recent years, Olive Garden, Chipotle Mexican Grille, CiCi’s Pizza, Five Guys Burgers & Fries, Moe’s Southwest Grill, Cold Stone Creamery and the restaurant in the Hilton Garden Inn have opened in the busy corridor. Inside the mall, Skewed Brewing Co. and Wayback Burgers restaurant began operating in the mall’s food court during the past two years. Work on a Sonic Drive-In also began a few weeks ago in nearby City Center Plaza and Taco del Mar opened in the area this spring.
They joined a number of popular chain restaurants that have been operating along outer Arsenal Street for years.
Plans now call for a 5,500- square-foot restaurant, near the mall’s entrance, said Deputy Town Clerk Pamela D. Desormo, a member of the town’s Planning Board.
The presentation to the Planning Board did not include many details; a site plan may be completed for next month’s meeting. “It was informative, just to let us know it’s coming,” she said.
The parcel once was approved for a building that would have housed retail shops, but it was never developed, Mrs. Desormo said.
