WATERTOWN — A city man has been indicted on charges that he tried to kill a Three Mile Bay man in a drive-by shooting last summer on Ohio Street.

Austen L. Scudera, 20, is charged with first- and second-degree attempted murder, first-degree assault, first-degree criminal use of a firearm and second- and third-degree criminal use of a firearm.

The charges were contained in a grand jury indictment handed up Wednesday in Jefferson County Court.

It is alleged that on June 24 he intentionally tried to cause the death of Robert C. Hunt III by shooting at him several times with a pistol, striking him and causing a wound that caused serious, protracted injury and pain to Mr. Hunt.

According to the indictment, Scudera shot Mr. Hunt “pursuant to an agreement for which he was to receive money.”

According to papers filed in City Court, Mr. Hunt was sitting in a parked car on the 1300 block of Ohio Street near Michigan Avenue after visiting a friend. Police said at the time that a second car approached from the east along Ohio Street, fired shots at Mr. Hunt’s vehicle and sped away onto Colorado Avenue.

Mr. Hunt’s family initially offered a $5,000 reward for information that would solve crime, but Scudera was charged in the shooting June 27. He has been held at the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building on $75,000 bail since.
