STAR LAKE — Voters in the Clifton-Fine Central School District approved a revised budget Tuesday by a vote of 129-97.
The district was the only one in St. Lawrence County whose budget was defeated in May. Voters at that time rejected a proposed budget 234-135 even though the increase in the tax levy would have been 0.5 percent.
The school board unanimously decided to put up a revised budget totaling $10,043,401 for a re-vote. The tax increase will again not exceed 0.5 percent.
The board dropped a vice principal position from the proposal, which cut the budget $49,000.
The budget still includes a half-time special education committee chairman which the full-time administrative position would have replaced. Special Education Committee Chairwoman Cynthia A. Healy retired mid-year.
“I don’t know how well we’ll do to find someone part-time,” Superintendent Regina C. Yeo said. “We’re just hoping we can fill that. We’ll manage. The work will get done.”
