CGSW Racing will present the first annual Maple City Triathlon on Aug. 9 and the inagural has earned official sanction from USATriathlon.

The event will be headquartered at the Ed Dobisky Memorial Community Center and will feature a 750 meter swim, a 20 kilometer bike ride and a 5K run. Registration will be limited to the first 130 individual and first 20 teams to enter and all entries must be postmarked by July 26.

The entry fee is $55 before July 12 and $65 up to July 26. For teams the cost is $80 before July 12 and $100 up to 26. Non USA Triathlon members must add $12 for a one-day membership.

Sponsors for the triathlon are: the City of Ogdensburg, Aquafina, Buster’s Sports Bar and Restaurant and Wear on Earth.

The triathlon is an extension of the Hoswegatchie Duathlon which started its second summer series on Wednesday. The second and third legs are scheduled for July 10 and August 14.

Leading the field was longtime road warrior Will Glass of Lisbon, Kendra Moran who will make her debut in 70.3 Triathlon on Sunday in Syracuse and the team of Charlie Langley and Donovan Smith.

“It was nice for an old guy like to me to keep up with the young people,” said Glass who posted a winning time of 46:37 over another veteran racer in Tom Toole (47:20) and Roddy Power (53:26).

Moran related that she will enter the event with Kristen Sutton and that she has been training extremely hard for months to get ready to compete in Triathlon 70.3 (1.5 mile swim, 56 mile bike, 13.1 mile run) whose dimensions are one-half of an Ironman.

“I have really trained hard andaI have done a lot of swimming at the OFA pool at night and in the morning. My husband has really been supportive,” said Moran who fashioned a 47:38-57:50 margin of victory over Erica Soper. Terra O’Neil placed third at 58:20.

“I still haven’t gotten over a leg injury so I couldn’t run so I picked Donovan Smith for a partner,” said Langley a longtime distance runner, triathlete and marathoner.

He and Smith, who recently completed a very strong and very versatile running career at OFA where he was a consistent winner from distances ranging from country country to the sprints, combined for a 41:19 followed Mark Dunkleberg and Nick Vielhauer at 45:14 and Shawn Paradis and Yves Dupont at 46:01.

The duathlon was headquartered at Hosmer’s Marina and featured a two 1.5-mile runs on the Maple City Train sandwhiched around an eight-mile bike run on a double loop.
