Voters have option in Doheny for Congress

Those of us who are Republican voters have a primary coming later this month. It appears we can opt for a local man, family man, businessman and father.

He grew up here, attending local schools and still resides here in the 21st Congressional District. Matt Doheny has been here working and trying to earn our votes.

Elise Stefanik is not a longtime local resident and is sensing a possible Republican sweep in November. Her reported history is she worked as a White House domestic policy council staffer from 2006 to 2009.

It has been reported that she spent some summers in the district but didn’t reside here until recently. I wonder if the term “carpetbagger” could apply.

But the most damning accusations is that she is a D.C. insider. And when you see Karl Rove’s American Crossroads supporting Ms. Stefanik, that speaks volumes.

If you like higher taxes, vote for Ms. Stefanik; she refused to sign a no tax increase pledge that Mr. Doheny has signed. If you are a big fan of Rep. and House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, Rep. Paul Ryan, et al., vote for Ms. Stefanik.

The American Crossroads ad says that Mr. Doheny is a flawed candidate. I recall former President William J. Clinton saying that he tried marijuana, but “I didn’t inhale.”

We are not electing a pope. Whoever is elected, if they don’t perform, they can be rejected in the next election.

However, if you dislike American Crossroads and the Washington insiders as a whole, I believe we have a local option. Just look to Virginia’s District 7; Rep. Eric Cantor has lost his primary bid. So maybe local voters can make a difference and the Washington insiders can lose.

I an not a contributor, volunteer or campaign worker for Mr. Doheny. And as to the Watertown Daily Times, they have staked their flag with the Democrat cause per their editorials.
