Maggie’s List endorses Elise Stefanik in NY21 race

Maggie’s List, a political action committee dedicated to electing conservative women to federal office, announced Thursday that it is endorsing Republican congressional candidate Elise M. Stefanik in the race for New York’s 21st Congressional District.

“Elise Stefanik is running a positive campaign based on the issues and bringing solutions to Congress on the behalf of the hardworking families of New York’s 21st District,” said Sandra Mortham, Chairman of Maggie’s List and former Florida Secretary of State, in a news release about the announcement. “Elise will stand for fiscal conservatism, less government, more personal responsibility and a strong national security in the U.S. House.”

Ms. Stefanik, a Harvard graduate and former policy adviser in the George W. Bush White House, is running against fellow Republican Matthew A. Doheny in a June 24th primary election. She works for her family’s plywood distribution business in Willsboro. She credited her experience working for the business with instilling in her the importance of fiscal responsibility.

“I am grateful to earn the endorsement of Maggie’s List. I come from a small business family, and I know firsthand the importance of fiscal responsibility,” Ms. Stefanik is quoted as saying. “Small businesses must be responsible with their spending or they do not last. Congress needs to act in the same way, and I will be a strong voice in Washington fighting for the same fiscal principles that our family business, and the thousands of small businesses across the 21st District, must live by each day. Congress needs fresh energy, new ideas and a new generation of leadership stepping up, and I’m proud Maggie’s List believes in my campaign.”

Maggie’s List is a federal PAC founded in 2010 to elect women who stand for fiscal conservatism, less government, more personal responsibility and strong national security, according to the release.
