Collegiate baseball: Rams record sweep on road vs. Albany

ALBANY — Pitchers Sean Rackoski and Mitch Sewald each recorded their first wins of the summer season to lead the Watertown Rams to a doubleheader sweep of the Albany Dutchmen on Wednesday.

After the Rams won the first game, 10-2, they went on to win the nightcap against the Dutchmen, 4-1, in Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League play at Bob Bellizzi Field.

Rackoski, who pitched for Kansas University in the spring, recorded a five-hit, complete-game effort in the first game. He struck out six and didn’t walk a batter in seven innings of work.

Sewald, who attended Louisiana State University as a freshman in 2013, also tossed a seven-inning complete game as he fired a three-hitter and yielded only an unearned run and struck out five.

With the sweep, Watertown (6-6) reached the .500 mark after losing three of its previous four games.

In the opener, the Rams broke open a scoreless game by scoring five runs in both the sixth and seventh innings against the East Division-leading Dutchmen (8-3).

Nick Moore paced Watertown in the first game as he singled three times and drove in three runs, including a two-run single in the seventh. Chris Gaetano doubled and singled in two runs in the sixth, Dominic Lopez tripled and singled and Robbie Alessandrine singled and knocked in a pair of runs.

In the second game, Santino Alteri singled three times, including an RBI single in the second inning, to pace the Rams.

Watertown, which improved to 3-3 in road games, will host the Glens Falls Golden Eagles at 7 tonight at the Alex T. Duffy Fairgrounds.
