PORT LEYDEN — Peter F. Smith, 18, of 7153 E. Main St., was charged by Lewis County sheriff’s deputies June 13 with fourth-degree grand larceny.
It is alleged that on June 9 he drove a 2007 Pontiac G-6 through the parking lot of Stewart’s Shops, 3906 Route 12, and down an embankment. He was taken to Lewis County General Hospital, Lowville, for treatment of unspecified injuries.
Deputies said that during the course of the investigation into the accident, Mr. Smith was found to have been operating the vehicle without the owner’s permission. Upon his release from the hospital, he was charged with grand larceny, as well as with unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, operating with an obstructed view and avoiding an intersection.
He was arraigned in Lowville Village Court and sent to the Lewis County jail, Lowville, on $2,500 bail. He is due to answer the charges in West Leyden Town Court.
