MALONE — The Red Roof Inn here will be able to accommodate more guests in the future, thanks to building permit approval given by the village board on Thursday.
John M. Parent, owner of the inn, plans to expand the hotel by adding 18 rooms, a fitness center and an elevator.
Mr. Parent said he expects work will begin within the next month and be completed by the beginning of the year.
He has been the owner of the hotel since it was built in 1994.
He said the blueprint includes demolishing Jon’s Family Restaurant and Chez Madeleine Collectibles and Gifts buildings for the expansion.
Both businesses closed on May 31.
Mr. Parent said there will be a three-story addition with regular rooms and suites.
He said some of the new 18 rooms will be more equipped with amenities for extended stays.
The hotel currently has 44 rooms. Mr. Parent said the rooms were recently refurbished, and will not be changed.
Village Trustee Hugh Hill said the cost of the expansion will be around $900,000.
“It’s an excellent project,” he said.
