State police continuing investigation into assault on Plumbrook Road

NORFOLK - Massena-based state police are continuing an investigation into an assault reported at 9:01 p.m. Friday on County Route 38 in the town of Norfolk.

Troopers said passers-by on their way to the fireworks stopped when they saw what turned out to be a domestic dispute between two males and a female. Police said the two parties were separated with the males leaving the area on bicycles and the female walking around the area near their home.

A short time later the female, in her early 40s, called 911 and reported she had been struck in the head multiple times during that altercation.

Troopers said when they arrived on the scene the woman was non-verbal.

State police Bureau of Criminal Investigation Senior Investigator Judie Trimboli, Massena, said the medics from LifeNet and Norfolk Rescue officials and a trooper with a background in emergency medical training concurred the woman appeared to be suffering from life-threatening injuries. She was transported to the Vermont Medical Center, Burlington, Vt., by LifeNet helicopter.

Troopers said the woman was held overnight at the hospital for observation, but the initial report from physicians was the female had suffered no injuries other than a scraped knee.

Police said they are continuing to search for the two males reportedly involved in the incident.

The Troop B Major Crimes Unit was initially called in to assist in the investigation, but they were released after it was determined the woman did not appear to be suffering from life-threatening injuries.
