WATERTOWN — A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday for the recently refurbished Rotary fitness trail at Thompson Park.

Originally built by the Rotary Club in 1989, the fitness trail was recently upgraded and transformed with the installation of a new 8-foot-wide paved trail, new fitness equipment and signs. The project was a joint effort between Rotary and the city.

The one-third-mile-long, looped trail is located in the park, adjacent to the main parking area. It features 11 new fitness stations, including a chin-up bar, beam jump, body curl, push-up station and leg lift.

The Rotary Club raised funds to purchase the new fitness equipment and materials for the construction of the trail. City Department of Public Works crews constructed the trail; the Parks and Recreation Department installed the fitness equipment and completed topsoil work.

Rotary Club volunteers also planted 34 new trees around the trail last spring, as part of its annual tree-planting efforts.
