NORFOLK — Joshua L. Brothers, 23, of Norfolk, was charged by St. Lawrence County sheriff’s detectives and deputies with first-degree scheme to defraud and eight counts of petit larceny following a monthslong investigation into an Internet fraud complaint the department received in April.
Deputies said Mr. Brothers allegedly used a Facebook page for trappers to sell trap to 10 victims in Arizona, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, Indiana, Nevada, Nebraska, Ohio, Illinois and New York.
Detectives said Mr. Brothers was paid a total of more than $1,000 with cashier’s checks and money orders, but did not send any merchandise to the victims.
Detectives said numerous police departments across the country assisted with the investigation.
Mr. Brothers was arraigned by Town Justice Donald Lustyik, released under the supervision of probation and is scheduled to reappear.
