WATERTOWN — The English Department at Jefferson Community College is accepting submissions for its 2014 North Country Writers Contest.
The competition is open to all residents and friends of the upstate New York region and encompasses the following categories: short fiction, 1,000 to 3,000 words; poetry, not to exceed 100 lines, and essay/non-fiction, 1,000 to 3,000 words.
Submissions must reflect a connection to the north country, be previously unpublished work, be in letter-quality format and be double-spaced. Entrants may submit a maximum of three pieces.
The title and category of each submission, author’s name, address, telephone number, e-mail address and word count must be included on a separate cover page; only the title should appear on the manuscript. Entries will not be returned.
The award for each category is $100 and publication on the college’s website. Entries that receive honorable mention will be awarded $25 and published online.
