ALEXANDRIA BAY — The Thousand Islands Land Trust and bike enthusiast Elaine Tack will host Bike the River at 10 a.m. Saturday for a “showcase” of the various preserves and trails along Route 12 that are conserved by the land trust.
Bicyclists will meet at TILT’s Otter Creek Preserve for a sneak peek at plans for the new nature trail. From there, participants will travel west on Route 12, with stops at TILT’s Rivergate Trail/S. Gerald Ingerson Preserve and Zenda Farm Preserve at Clayton. The ride is suitable for families with teens.
Water will be provided, but participants are asked to pack a lunch if needed. The trek is considered an endurance ride; return transportation will be available for riders and bikes who can’t make the trip back.
Participants will have to provide their own bicycles. Helmets are strongly recommended for all riders, and are required for riders younger than 14 under state law.
