A furious duel for team honors and 70.3 triathlete Kendra Moran earning overall individual honors highlighted Wednesday’s July edition of the 2014 Hoswegatchie Duathlon Series.
“We had a nice night. We had 88 entries up from 69 in June,” said Gary Hammond of CGSW Racing which hosts the series.The final leg will be held on Aug. 13.
Wednesday’s first finishers came in one second apart as the combination of runner Donovan Smith and biker Chuck Langley repeated a win in the June duathlon.
Langley managed to hold off a hard-charging Mark Horne for a 41:25-41:26 margin of victory. Nick Vielhauer ran with Horne.
Shawn Paradis and Yves Dupont placed third at 45:24 followed by Lauren and Tim Morley in 47:20 and Pete LePage and Colleen Cotey in 49:11.
Individual honors went to Kendra Moran in 46:05 and Kristen Sutton took second in the ladies field in 49:38. Moran and Sutton both made very promising 70.3 triathlon debuts in Syracuse two weeks ago.
Rounding out the women’s top five were: Joan Whise 50:45, Jeni Backus 54:28 and Pam Rowe 59:02.
Will Glass repeated as the male medalist in 46:59 followed by Jeff Soper in 47:57 and John Durr in 48:09. Rounding out the top five were: Roddy Powers 48:52 and Josh Akins 49:00.
The preparations for the first Maple City Triathlon, which will also be presented by CGSW Racing on Aug. 9, are shaping us nicely saw CGSW representatives.
The 750 meter swim has been laid out with a major portion of the course travelling over the sandbar. The triathlon will also include a 20K bike and a 5K run. The entry fees are $55 for individuals before July 12 and $65 from July 12 to July 26. The entry fee for teams is $80 before July 12 and $100 between July 12 and July 26.
Registration is limited to 130 individuals and 20 teams and entries must be postmarked by July 26. Non USA Triathlon members must add $12 for a one-day membership which provides insurance.
