Matt Davis Golf Tournament Founded


HEUVELTON — Matt Davis lost a valiant fight against cystic fibrosis at age 43 on March 4.

The Potsdam resident was diagnosed at age 7 but never let the fatal disease alter the course of his life which was rich, rewarding and a gift to his family members and many friends.

Each year members of his family, as Team Matt Davis, take part in Cycle for Life which has raised nearly $4 million to help support life-saving research, quality, care and education programs in the quest to find a curce fo CF. They hope a cure can soon be found.

According to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation there are approximately 30,000 Americans living with cystic fibrosis. Many of them struggle everyday just to breath.

Matt Davis suffered through many of those days but that didn’t stop him from enjoying a successful career as plant manager at North Country Dairy in North Lawrence after holding managerial positions with McCadam Cheese in Heuvelton and Cabot, Vt.

He also scaled in the heighths in his recreational pursuits as a mountain climber and wildness camper. He climbed Mount St. Helens in Washington State and several high peaks in the Adirondack Mountains.

To honor Matt’s memory and to raise money for quest for a cure for Cystic Fibrosis members of Matt’s Family will host the first Matthew P. Davis Memorial Golf Tournament on Saturday, July 12, at the Gilbert Greens Golf Club.

The format of the tournament will be a four-person scramble and the team fee of $200 includes golf, cart and lunch.

There will also be a Longest Drive Contest, Closest To The Pin Contest, Putting Contest, a skins game and teams may purchase mulligans.

Teams may enter in person at the Gilbert Greens Golf Course or by calling 344-2222.
