Emma Gauthier


Funeral services for Emma Gauthier, age 100, formerly of Ford St., Ogdensburg will be held on Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Notre Dame Church with Rev. F. James Shurtleff officiating. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Monday, July 14, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Frary Funeral Home. Mrs. Gauthier passed away Friday, July 11, 2014 at St. Joseph’s Nursing Home.

Mrs. Gauthier is survived by two sons, Maurice and his wife, Connie, of Folcroft, PA, and Leonard and his wife, Grace, of Bellefonte, PA; two daughters, Loretta Burnham and her husband, Fay, of Massena, and Marlene Wells, of Ogdensburg; one sister, Theresa Messenger, of Conneticut; seventeen grandchildren, twenty eight great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by six brothers, Armand, Larry, Joseph, Frederick, Napoleon, and Vernon Risher; three sisters, Marie Miles, Vivian Durant, and Lillian Lahue; and one son-in-law, Charles Wells.

Mrs. Gauthier was born on December 18, 1913 in Ogdensburg, the daughter of Joseph and Melvina Dashnaw Risher. She married Edward Gauthier on November 26, 1931 at Notre Dame Church with Rev. P. S. Garand officiating. Mr. Gauthier passed away March 2, 1960. She attended local schools. She began work at the St. Lawrence Psychiatric Center in 1960 and retired in 1976 as a Therapy Aide. She was well known for cake decorating. She was a member of the Pythian Sisters and AARP. Donations may be made in her memory to the Notre Dame Heritage Fund or St. Joseph’s Foundation.
