JDRF barbecue yet another success

To The Editor:

We would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge and thank everyone who supported our fifth annual fundraiser and chicken barbecue held at The Place July 1 for the benefit of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. It was another great success and, to date, over the last five years has raised more than $47,000 for JDRF.

First, we would like to thank Bill and Maureen McNally, who host and sponsor the barbecue at The Place as well as our other sponsors, including the New York State Corrections Officers and Police Benevolent Association, Algonquin Power Services, St. Lawrence Federal Credit Union, Pepsi-Cola Ogdensburg Bottlers, Jreck Subs, Gray’s Gun Shop and Fobare’s Fruits. We would also like to thank the following who donated supplies or money toward the barbecue: The Place, Phoenix On The Bay, Moose Lodge, Elks Club, Paul and Donna Pirie, Amvets Post 19, Hosmer’s Marina, Quality Inn-Gran View, Busy Corner Cafe, Phillip’s Diner, Dixie Lee, Ogdensburg Agway, Lowe’s Home Improvement, Price Chopper, Save A Lot, Fish’Er Chips, Mike Russell, Kathy Hilborne, Dirty Gringo, and Donut King. Also, a big thank-you to Steve Putman and his culinary arts students at Northwest Tech, who helped prepare the chicken and make the macaroni salad.

Also thank you to the students and faculties of the following schools for their donations: Kennedy Elementary, Lincoln Elementary, Heuvelton Teachers Association, Morristown National Honor Society, Ogdensburg Free Academy, Heuvelton Leo Club, Lisbon Central School Interact Club and Madill Elementary.

Than you to all those who donated prizes for our raffles and auctions, including Lisbon Central School Interact Club, Detroit Red Wings Goalie Jimmy Howard, the Buffalo Bills, the Buffalo Sabres, Walmart, John Morrow, John Gardner, Marc Bouchey, Valerie Matthews, Donna King, The Cutting Edge, Freight House, Buster’s Sports Bar and Little Italy.

Thank you to The Place and The Cutting Edge for selling sneakers and raffle tickets, to Nice n Easy for selling sneakers and to St. Lawrence Federal Credit Union for selling sneakers and letting our volunteers sell raffle tickets at their State Street and Commerce Park Drive locations.

Thank you to everyone who displayed our posters and to all those who advertised for us, including The Journal and Advance-News, the Watertown Daily Times, radio stations Q-Country 102.9 and PAC 98.7 and YES-FM, and Time Warner Cable. Also, thanks to the Department of Public Works for hanging our banner, to Steve LaRose from Howland Pump, Brian Mitchell from Ogdensburg Free Academy Food Services and Ike Strader.

Also, thank you to everyone who bought a chicken dinner, a sneaker, a bracelet, a raffle or auction ticket. We really appreciate your support of JDRF.

And last, but not least, to all those special people who generously donated their time collecting donations, selling raffle tickets and/or working the barbecue: Bill and Maureen McNally, Paul and Donna Pirie, Tim and Nancy Irvine, Bob and Debbie Williams, Pete and Peggy Montpetit, Barb and Jerry Kroeger, Linda Rivet, Mike and Jake Herzog, Stacey Barney, Jen and McKenna Gray, Tara Kroeger and daughters, Donna King, Marlene Shaver, Jhenna Baxter, Matt Caufield, Walter Bracy and Jim Howard.
