The 33rd annual Frederic Remington Race will be held Saturday, July 19 as part of the Ogdensburg International Seaway Festival. The course will run from Heuvelton to Ogdensburg (approximately 12 miles), and USCA and NYCRA rules will be used. A registration session will be held on Thursday (July 17) from 6-7 p.m. at the Ed Dobisky Visitors Center.
The race starts at the Boat Launch in Heuvelton (follow the signs in Heuvelton) and proceed down the Oswegatchie River towards Ogdensburg with first class beginning at 9:30 a.m. There are two portages of about 100 yards each, the first at Eel Weir Dam (6.5 miles down river) the second is at the dam in Ogdensburg (about 4.5 miles further down river). Both portages will be on the right side of the dams. Canoeists will leave the Oswegatchie and enter the St. Lawrence, bear right and the finish is at the boat ramp. The total distance is approximately 12 miles.
The classes will be as follow with a start time: C2 Women 9:30, C2 MIXED 9:30PM, C2 MEN 10:15, Adults & Youth *9:45, Kayak(MEN) 10:00, Kayak Women 10:00 and Kayak Tandem 10:00. The minimum weight for a Unlimited canoe is 55 pounds, and canoes must be between 17’6” and 18’6” in length.The first 60 contestants will receive shirts at registration. Participants who do not receive a shirt, one will be ordered at a cost of $1.50 to cover the cost of mailing. The registration fee is $15 per participant in US funds. All contestants must sign the waiver forms. The parent or guardian must also sign waiver forms with minors.

The awards will be presented at approximately 1:15 p.m. at the finish line area. Absolutely no alcoholic beverages are allowed. A form will be run in Tuesday’s Ogdensburg Journal or forms will be offered on Thursday at registration.
