GLENS FALLS — Ryan Semor, making his first career start, threw a pair of touchdown passes to Edgar Givens in the third quarter to lead the Watertown Red and Black to a 34-7 victory over the Glens Falls Green Jackets to open the Empire Football League regular season Saturday night at East Field.

Defensive end Ben Cornish, a first-year player, returned a fumble 35 yards for a touchdown in the third to cap off the scoring and give Watertown a 34-0 lead.

“The guys played great,” Red and Black coach George Ashcraft said. “All the things these coaches have been working over the last few weeks really came to show tonight.”

Curtis Dukes ran in the first touchdown from five yards out midway through the first quarter and a Calvin Rhodes’s scoring run in the second put the Red and Black up 14-0 at halftime.

The Red and Black defense forced four Glens Falls turnovers. Cornish and Ky Sawyer each scooped up a fumble while Matt Kepler and Garrick Cook each came up with an interception.

Kepler, Derrek Dalton and Rob Hughes finished with eight tackles apiece to lead the Red and Black defense.

Glens Falls running back Kevin Cardonna scored on a run with just less than five minutes remaining to deny Watertown the shutout.

Rhodes led the rushing attack with 14 carries for 65 yards, and Dukes finished with 38 yards on six carries.
