To The Editor: Well…another Potsdam Summer Festival has come and gone. The Potsdam Chamber hopes everyone had a great time.
We greatly appreciate the support given to the chamber in order to pull off this event once again.
We have already heard many comments about the awesome weather…which of course we do not take any credit.
We also heard compliments about the great music. We thank all the musicians and other performers throughout the festival venues – from the main stage to the gazebo to Outer Market Mania. None of which would be possible without the great work of Northern Music & Video’s professional staff.
Other organizations that help with coordinating events have always helped the festival to grow. We appreciate the efforts of the St. Lawrence Health Initiative with the Tour De Potsdam, the Potsdam Rescue Squad and Norwood Brass Firemen for the Ice Cream Social, the St. Lawrence County Arts Council for the Art Market, and the St. Lawrence-Adirondack Region Antique Auto Club of America for the Car Show.
Great times were had by kids at the Potsdam Elks and at Outer Market Mania. Thanks to all the businesses that provided activities for the kids, the performers, and those with vehicles for the Touch A Truck.
The outdoor movie was extremely successful..with a quick headcount of 400! We appreciate the sponsorship of Dr. Stacey Howlett for the movie. We hope to offer a movie again next year.
The parade crew did a great job this year…thanks to Tracy Tuttle, Janice Adderley, Fonda, Barb and Bill Burcume, Robert Fowler.
We also recognize the assistance of the Village Police, Fire Department, sheriff’s department, Scott Dosztan for emcee duties, North Country Oil Change for review stand (flatbed truck), and parade sponsors - Great Northern Printing and The Clarkson Inn. We appreciate all that marched or provided a float.
Another big shout out to George LaVigne and the staff of The Clarkson Inn. Thank you for the use of your property for the craft show, parade sponsorship, Outer Market sponsorship, and other support.
By this time, you must see how many others help to make Summer Festival a success every year.
Continuing…thanks to Dan’s Plumbing and Heating for the portie potties in three different locations, Sam’s Party Tents, Jimmy Sheehan for assistance with generator for food vendor use, Martin’s Maple St. Service for stage transportation, Clarkson University - for use of Downtown Old Snell Hall property for car show and Walker Center for parade launch point, Snell Equipment for UTV and Agway for the trailer, and Casella for extra trash containers and dumpster, Village of Potsdam PW crews for barricades, geese fencing at Ives Park, and more.
Finally I want to mention our other festival sponsors: Chilly Delight, Canton-Potsdam Hospital, Jreck Subs, Save A Lot, Rose and Kiernan, Enbridge St. Lawrence Gas, Community Bank, Cape Air, The Body Shop, Stewarts, Maple Run Emporium, Pinto-Mucenski Hooper Van House and Co. , SeaComm, St. Lawrence Radiology, Today’s Hair & Day Spa, On the Edge Designs, Potsdam Specialty Papers, National Grid, ‘Em Bears, Collegiate Village of Potsdam, Cape Air, SUNY Potsdam, and Clarkson University.
Lastly, I wish to thank the chamber board, festival committee, Mayor Yurgartis, and my assistant Meghan Hughes for their hours of work.
