CANTON – Ronald G. “Ronnie” Guyett, 81, of Miner Street, Road, Canton, died Wed, July 16, 2014 at Canton-Potsdam Hospital after a short illness.

The family will receive friends on Thurs, July 24th from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the Lawrence Funeral Home, Canton. A graveside service will be held Fri, July 25th at 2:30 PM at Fairview Cemetery, Canton with Lay Minister Martha Helmer officiating. Following the burial, a reception will be in the Fairview Cemetery Chapel.

Ronnie was born March 23, 1933 in Canton, NY, a son of the late Homer & Pearl (Martin) Guyett. He attended Canton High School, where he played football and wrestled. In 1952 he enlisted in the US Army and served during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged in 1955.

On April 3, 1961, he married Virginia “Ginger” Robert in St. Patrick’s Church, Colton with Monsignor Robert McCarthy as celebrant.

Surviving are his wife “Ginger” of Canton, a daughter, Donna (Shaun) Gollinger of Canton; a son, Mitchell of Tuscon, AZ; three brothers, Alton “Ike” (Judy) Guyette of Pierrepont, Gilbert “Gibby” Guyette of Russell and Larra “Larry” Guyette of SC; two sisters, Gail Guyette of Geneseo and Linda Guyette of SC; two grandchildren, Jennifer (Chris) Gollinger of Russell and Emily Pirie and fiancé Mark Gilbert and two great-grandchildren, Peyton & Kelsi Gollinger of Russell.

Ronnie retired as Bridge Superintendant for the St. Lawrence County Highway Department after 21 years service. Previously he worked for Carl Clary Construction, Knapp Station for 20 years and for Jerry Ames, Plymouth Dealership on US 11 outside Canton for a few years. Most recently was the Superintendant of Fairview Cemetery, Canton, for 17 years, where he worked with his family taking great pride in the appearance of the cemetery grounds.

He was a lifetime member of the VFW #1231, member of Robinwood Sportsman’s Club in Sabatus and member and Past President of the Canton Sportsman’s Club.

Some of Ronnie’s interests were hunting, fishing, ATV riding, camping, woodworking and cutting firewood. When he was a little younger he also enjoyed racing snowmobiles, ArticCat and Motoski.
