Thanks To All

To The Editor:

Anyone who has coordinated an event has some idea of the amount of work required to bring a large event to a successful conclusion. It’s a team effort, and we wish to thank absolutely everyone who contributed to the success of this year’s Mare’s Wares Arts Fest including, but not limited to, our sponsors and those organizations who helped us get the word out and defray the cost of advertising: SeaComm, Max Beggs Builders and Movers, WPBSTV, Adirondack North Country Association (ANCA), The Thousand Islands Art Center,, The Watertown Daily Times, The Journal, WWNY 7/FOX 28, and North Country Public Radio (plus all those print advertisers who included unsolicited stories and online graphics supporting the event); Patty Richie and Jim Reagen for assistance in acquiring the use of digital highway signs (for which we are especially grateful); Wendy Goldie of the Bedrock Café for unlimited ice all day; Betsy and Trent Porter for use of their property for vendor parking; Joe and Evelyn Barton for the use of their (new!) camper for vendor accommodation; Krista Pensigner Brown for her stunning photography; the members of Alternative Motive and The Juggernaut Agenda who played gratis; Basta’s for an incredibly generous donation of flowers and plants; Brian Smith for stage management; Jonesy’s Party Tents for consummate professionalism; AJ Septic for the loan of a sink for the concession area; Dave Gilmour for the use of a generator and the gas to run it all day, and Teresa Evans for her support and for believing in the dream.

We also heartily thank all of the volunteers who made the Arts Fest such a wonderful event for our community. Mare’s Wares Arts Fest was totally dependent upon the time and effort our unpaid heroes donated. Volunteers helped before, during and after the one-day event. They dug in the dirt, weeded, helped set up canopies and tents, provided booth relief to artists, manned the entrance booth, managed the traffic and parking out front, kept the portable facilities stocked, and so much more. We could not do this event without volunteer help. We extend a huge Thank You to each and every one of them: Cody for his 4-5 hours out in the hot sun, Chris Becker for coordinating the Morristown Kiwanian volunteers and suggesting the Salvation Army vests; Tim Shaffer and The Salvation Army for coming through with the vests; Molly and Mike Shew for their extraordinary help and for bringing along a great group of friends to join in; Jennifer Dashnaw, Pat Whitmarsh, Andria Turner, Yvette Barney, and Bethany Matulewski, Janet Woodside and Gidget Kimble for tireless busy work; and Jane Fernandes, Connie Martin, Eden Lowery and Trenten Evans for being there when we turned around and needed someone. Thank you so much for donating your time to our cause and making our event the fun and magical day it was. Despite the oppressive heat on July 1, folks came out to support the event. Thank you to everyone who attended from far and wide, thank you to all the artisans who have participated for multiple years and those who believed in our mission to create something special and were there for the first time. What an amazing day of creativity and celebration! The good feelings and positive impact were evident throughout the day in all the friendly faces and big smiles. If you came, then you know what we’re talking about. The entertainment was awesome, the demonstrations were interesting, and the artists were fabulous and engaging. We have been fortunate for the opportunity to host so much incredible talent - we sincerely hope if you came, you enjoyed it; and if you were unable to attend that you will look forward next year to seeing what you missed!
