PULASKI — State police charged Casey C. Billings, 29, of 426 Villiard Road, Parish, with second-degree manslaughter and third-degree attempted burglary following an investigation into a fatal accident in May.
According to the results of the investigation, Mr. Billings was driving a 2012 Ford F-250 south on Route 69 at a high speed when he lost control of the vehicle on a curve in the town of Mexico. Police said the vehicle traveled off the west shoulder, traversed a large ditch and struck two utility pole guard wires and then two trees, coming to rest in the yard at 4297 Route 69.
Mr. Billings’s brother, Christopher J. Billings, 41, also from Parish, was a passenger in the vehicle and died from his injuries.
Mr. Billings, who also was injured in the accident, initially was charged with driving while intoxicated before the investigation revealed that the brothers were fleeing the town of Mexico after they attempted to break into a Kinney Drug store there, police said.
Mr. Billings was arraigned in Hastings Town Court and released to reappear at a later date.
