Near-perfect conditions greet strong Norwood Duathlon field


NORWOOD - Near-perfect conditions greeted a field of 53 competitors for the second stage of the 2014 Norwood Beach Duathlon Series on Tuesday.

Jacob Malcomb crossed the finish line first in a time of 41:20 to lead the men’s division. The trio of Riley Haas, Kent Fetter and Preston White combined to pace the team division with a time of 41:28 while Steph Rogers placed first in the women’s division for the second straight time this summer with a time of 45:37.

Ben Swimm placed second in the men’s division with a time of 42:11 followed by Chad Colbert in 42:41.

Kristen Sutton was second in the women’s division in a time of 48:50 while Amy Hollister placed third in 52:06.

The team of Josh Stokes and Kristy Betrus combined to take second in the team division with a time of 41:47 while Jon Eng and Bob Rogers teamed up to place third in 45:32.

The final race of the 2014 series is slated for Tuesday, August 19. Each race begins and ends at the Norwood Beach Pavilion parking lot and consists of an eight-mile bike ride sandwiched between two 1.5-mile runs.

Registration opens at 5:30 p.m. and the race starts at 6:30 p.m.
