LOWVILLE — The Lewis County Hospital Foundation’s signature fundraising event, the Lewis County Hospital Foundation Gala, will be held Saturday, Sept. 27, from 7:30 to 11:30 p.m. at the Ridgeview Inn. Honorary co-chairs of the event will be Dr. Shirley Tuttle-Malone and her husband, Michael Malone.

Dr. Tuttle-Malone has been a family practice physician at the Beaver Falls Clinic since June 1994 and has been very involved in educating staff and physicians at Lewis County General Hospital throughout her career.

Dr. Elwin Stillman will be honored at the Gala for 37 years of outstanding medical service at Lewis County General Hospital. Dr. Stillman began as a family practice physician at LCGH in August 1977 and has been an active, highly-respected and valued member of the volunteer clinical faculty for 27 years, most notably in the rural medicine education program. He has also been a fellow in the American Academy of Family Practice since 1986 and is certified in geriatric medicine.

The event will include themed food stations and musical entertainment by Erin Monnat and Mike Shaw together with The Burglars to provide dinner and dancing music. A silent auction will include a Jerry McNamarra signed and framed jersey, a four-person hopper pass at Disney World, a getaway weekend at Matt Doheny’s home on the St. Lawrence River and Bradon McDonald’s winning dress design from Project Runway.

Tickets for the gala are $50 each and the dress is cocktail casual. Guests of the gala will have the opportunity to win a $1,000 Turning Stone gift card while helping raise funds for the hospital foundation. Proceeds from the gala will assist in funding an automated breast cancer ultrasound machine that will provide a second level of cancer screening for patients with dense breast tissue. It will not replace mammography, however, and will be used as an additional tool to obtain an early and accurate diagnosis.

According to the foundation, a screening breast ultrasound program would benefit more than 1,000 women per year in our community by diagnosing breast cancer at an earlier stage where it is more treatable; ultimately saving more lives. The cost of the machine is $190,000.
