Panache Quartet Workshop and Concert August 2nd


CANTON — On August 2, the band Panache Quartet will hold an afternoon workshop at the TAUNY Center and play an evening concert at the Edwards Opera House. Panache Quartet are Cape Breton fiddler Andrea Beaton, Franco-American fiddler Donna Hebert, American Old-Time fiddler Jane Rothfield, and Quebecois fiddler Veronique Plasse. Bringing together varied traditional styles with great skill, energy, and creativity, Panache plays true roots music with a contemporary twist. As they come together to create new music, they also spotlight the best of their own traditional music in their efforts to delight each other and their audiences.

If you are a fiddler or play another melody instrument, the Panache Quartet has something for you in their afternoon workshop, 2 to 4 p.m. on August 2, at the TAUNY Center. The workshop, “Fiddling Further Afield: North American Fiddle Styles,” is for intermediate to advanced players for all strings and melody instruments and includes a session with each of the Panache Quartet master fiddlers. Jane, Donna, Veronique and Andrea will each teach 1 to 2 tunes and delve into the rhythm, groove and music from Cape Breton, American Old Time, Quebeqois and Celtic fiddling traditions. This is a rare chance to work with and learn from four great teachers and fiddlers in a fun and relaxed group setting. Pre-registration is required. At 7 p.m. that evening, Panache Quartet will play a concert at the Edwards Opera House in Edwards. Don Woodcock and friends will play an opening set. Tickets are $20 at the door ($10 for children ages 6 to 12, under 6 free). With their incredible skill, perfect harmonies, and vibrant enthusiasm, these fiddlers are sure to take you on a journey of joy and discovery.
