ZOMBIES! This Saturday we’re inviting all teens to shamble down to the library at noon for a zombie walk around the park. If anyone needs help getting into the spirit, we’ll have a makeup workshop at 10 AM – makeup, materials, and fake blood provided. (Those skills might come in handy later this summer, when we play “Humans vs. Zombies” on the 23rd.) Wear old clothes – there will be splatter!
SCIENCE! If your children love playing with their food, we have a program for them. Next Saturday, August 9th, we’ll be experimenting with kitchen science. Some projects will be good to eat, others less so, but they’ll all be safe and fun. The program starts at 11 AM. Don’t forget to keep filling out your summer reading sheet for prizes! You can still sign up online at ogdlib.org/children, or stop in for more details.
CONSTRUCTION With the first phase of our construction work over, we’ve moved on to the second. The stucco on the west and north-west sides of the building is being repaired or replaced. Large sections of stucco have been separating from the building for the past several years, and we are taking advantage of a state grant to cover part of the cost of repair. We apologize for the unannounced closing of the ramp on that side of the building. It can be temporarily opened as needed. Please let us know if you need this service.
ADIRONDACK MUSEUM Thanks to the generosity of the Friends of the Library, we have a lendable pass good for half-off admissions to the Adirondack Museum in Blue Mountain Lake. Stop in or call the library for full details. The museum is about two hours away and is a wonderful day trip for all ages. If you can’t make the journey, take an armchair vacation with a selection from our display of Adirondack books.
JUST ARRIVED New in fiction this week: the highly-anticipated fantasy debut The Queen of the Tearling, and mysteries The City Under the Skin and Never Alone. New history titles include books about Ronald Reagan, Jimmy Carter, and World War I pilot Eddie Rickenbacker. Early readers can enjoy stories with pigs, like the newest Elephant and Piggie book – My New Friend is So Much Fun – or Porky and Bess. Starbird Murphy and the World Outside will intrigue teen readers with its story of a girl raised on an isolated commune and experiencing the “real” world for the first time. We add new books every week, for all ages and a wide variety of interests. You can check our website for a complete list, descriptions, and more, all hosted by LibraryThing.com.
MUSIC AND MOVEMENT Toddlers are invited to shake out their sillies on Tuesdays at 10 AM. Meet other area families and come dance with us!
STORY TIME Join us for our weekly story hour! Every Wednesday at 10:30 AM we’ll share a picture book (or two) and do a simple craft. This week’s theme is plants and seeds. All children ages 3-6 are welcome. During the summer, we will be outside in Library Park as the weather permits.
We welcome your QUESTIONS, COMMENTS, CONCERNS, BOOK REQUESTS, AND PROGRAMMING IDEAS. Contact us at 312 Washington Street, firstname.lastname@example.org, 393-4325, or any of our social media sites (you can do a search for Ogdensburg Public Library, or find the links on our website at ogdlib.org.)
WEEKLY SUMMER HOURS are 9 AM to 8 PM Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, 9 AM to 5 PM Wednesday and Friday, and 9 AM to 3 PM Saturday. We look forward to hearing from you and seeing you at your library!
